Average Car Insurance Rates by State

The following table shows statewide average auto insurance expenditures for 2008, 2009, and 2010. The average auto insurance expenditure represents the average amount spent by a policyholder in each state on liability, comprehensive, and collision coverages. No other coverage types were included in the comparison. The statewide average expenditure is determined by adding up the total amount spent in the state on liability, comprehensive, and collision coverage, and then dividing that sum by the total number of liability policies issued in the state.
